"Food industry should do the right things"

Frustrated Japanese consumers wonder where corporate went

Consumer groups have investigated the assessment about the consumers correspondence for 154 food business companies. Four consumer groupses of Japan ask food industry by questionnaire implementations concerning CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).

Four consumer groupses in Japan will announce on March 31 that they had started the questionnaire survey to 154 food business companies including the foreign-affiliate firms. The purpose is to ask whether to execute management that are friendly to the consumers.

A lot of voluntary recall cases with food that violated it about the law that contained the camouflage of the display and the additive that had not been permitted occurred in Japan since 2000, and the consumer confidence to the food business had collapsed.

The consumer groups clarifies what respect the food industry values and carries on for the consumers by the investigation.

The questionnaire form was sent out to 154 companies on March 30. The question includes the countermeasure to consumer complaints and the product voluntary recall procedure. The foreign affiliate food firms are included in 154 companies.

Four consumer groups are SHUFUREN(Japan leading consumer group), Japan Association of Consumer Affairs Specialists(JACAS), Consumer Union of Japan(CUJ), and National Liaison Committee of Consumers' Organizations.
