Hazardous chemicals is detected from dust collected in personal computer, television

The material pollutes human body, and inside of body density reaches 40 times standard

Iignition accident of which the cause is the structure of the product happens easily to the television and the personal computer.

Manufacturers are using the flame retardant for a plastic part of the cover case with the television and the personal computer to prevent it from spreading even if it ignites.

However, the survey report that poly bromine making diphenyl ether (PBDE) that was the element of "Brominated dioxins" and the flame retardant@with the toxicity that equaled dioxin had been detected from the dust collected in the main body came out.

The voice to worry about the indoor environment pollution with home appliance has extended because it turns out also that the inside of the body density of the flame retardant increases rapidly to 40 times in Japanese fat.

A high density residual chemical substance was detected from the dust collected in the television according to the investigation of the center head, Shinichi Sakai, of recycling society formation promotion and the waste research center of National Institute for Environmental Studies.

The research staff including Mr. Sakai analyzed the dust collected in 24 abandonment televisions manufactured between the latter half of 80's and the latter half of 90's. As a result, brominated dioxins was detected by 4.1 micrograms on the average a dust gram. It was detected from the television that had been manufactured in the latter half of especially 80's by 8.1 micrograms a gram.

Moreover, PBDE was detected 230 micrograms on the average a gram. 320 micrograms a gram were detected from the television that had been manufactured in the latter half of especially 90's.

On the other hand, when they examined dust in the air conditioner with a little use of the flame retardant, the brominated dioxins was hardly detected. PBDE was about 1/50 of the televisions.

Mr. Sakai analyzes the detection reason for the flame retardant from the dust collected in the television and the personal computer, "The route to which the flame retardant radiates from a main body cover and an electronic base by the heat when the television is used and the route to which the flame retardant moves from a plastic contacted part where dust collects are thought".

Mr. Sakai points out that the clarification of the shift mechanism is an important task.

The flame retardant is medicine added to make plastic easy not to burn.

Especially, because the flame retardant of the bromine system is excellent in the fire-resistant capability, it is widely used from home appliance such as radios and televisions to electrical instruments such as personal computers and printers and daily necessaries such as furniture and construction materials.

However, there is a point of generating the deleterious brominated dioxinses easily, and the report concerning the residual accumulation in the person inside of the body and the indoor dust has been submitted by each country.

Actually, it has been announced that an environmental group in the United States detected PBDE from dust in the personal computer in the beginning of June. PBDE has also been detected from the dust gathered from the garbage packing of the vacuum cleaner used by the ordinary family in Germany in the past.

Accumulation in the human body is also serious, and it turns out that PBDE included in mother's milk increased rapidly to twice in five years according to the investigation that the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden did.

Moreover, it is also clear in the investigation of National Institute for Environmental Studies that the PBDE density in Japanese tallow increases rapidly to 40 times or more every about 30 years.

Mr. Sakai describes, "The influence on the human has not been clarified". He alerts on the other hand, "It is necessary to prevent the child being exposed to the house dust".
PBDE is classified into three kinds.

It keeps using one remaining material though Japan controlled use for two kinds voluntarily in 2000.
