Aiming at investigation of doubt of carcinogenesis promotion effect of "Econa" (Enova) cooking oil element

Health Ministry requested assessment for health effect to Cabinet Office Food Safety Commission

Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare requested the assessing health effect of the carcinogenesis promotion effect of principal ingredient "Diacylglycerol" included in Food for Specified Health Uses popular "'Econa' (Enova) healthy cooking oil" and "'Econa' mayonnaise type" that Kao was selling now to Food Safety Commission on September 20.

This ministry shortly executes real "Two stage carcinogeneses incremental test" intended for the diacylglycerol based on the experimental result of National Cancer Center Research Institute.
This ministry described, "It wanted to obtain the opinion from Food Safety Commission before starting the examination".
Food Safety Commission that receives the request begins examining on September 22.

Food Safety Commission decided to deliberate it in an exceptional system of the review of setting up combine Working group that brought three specialty investigation committee of "New development food", "Additive", and "Chemical substance" together.

However, food related to "Econa" is sold as a Food for Specified Health Uses in the shop every day, and eaten by the consumer every day.

Some consumer groups that request, "Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare should withdraw the license of the Food for Specified Health Uses" and "Kao should stop selling until test result of Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare becomes clear" hold the study meeting in Tokyo on October 5.

Kao announced the comment with "Our company was judging that there was no problem about safety" to the report of Nippon consumer newspaper by its own home page between September 20 and the 22nd. And, this company introduced a current experimental result to the home page and announced the view with "The carcinogenesis promotion effect is not affirmed". This company placed the comment and the view in the home page in English on October 14.

It has developed into abnormal condition that Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare executes the carcinogenesis association test while Kao recommending sells cooking oil "Econa" as a Food for Specified Health Uses.
